Implantation

Implantation is when a fertilised egg embeds in the uterine lining, which is when hCG production begins and therefore when a pregnancy becomes detectable.

Example

It happens between 6 and 12 days past ovulation, with about 84% occurring on days 8 to 10 — which is why testing very early often returns a negative that later changes.
