Ovulation

Ovulation is the release of an egg from the ovary, roughly 14 days before the next period rather than 14 days after the last one. Anchoring it to the end of the cycle is why cycle length changes the estimate.

Example

In a 32-day cycle, ovulation is estimated around day 18 rather than day 14. Only about 13% of cycles are 28 days long at all.
