Percentile

A percentile is a position within a reference population: the 25th percentile means 25% of that population sits below the value. It is a description of where someone stands, not a grade or a target.

Example

A child on the 25th percentile for height is shorter than three quarters of their peers and entirely unremarkable. The trend across visits carries more information than any single percentile.
